Reflection on Abide

In a society pummeled with distractions every day, finding time to abide with Christ becomes difficult — but it is a necessity. As in any relationship, connection is important. If you never connect with your spouse or a close friend, that relationship will wither and die. The same is true in our relationship with God.

Abiding in Christ implies dependence on Him. As the Scripture states, a branch relies on the vine. Apart from the vine the branch will not produce fruit and will eventually die. Similarly, we are to rely on God. It's through this dependence that we are sustained — and it is the only way we can produce anything of lasting value.

Abiding isn't something you do once and then are finished. Rather, it is something we do daily. We must stay by God, continue to depend on Him.

So what does it mean to abide in Christ? It means to connect with God, rely on God, and stay by God. What are some ways you can abide with Him and draw closer in the coming days?

Take time to abide in Him — right now, under this tree, find rest and peace.

Scripture

"Abide in Me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in Me."

John 15:4
