Reflection on Gateway
In the Bible, a gateway symbolizes a natural access point to something spiritual. The sky is a gateway to heaven, the earth is a gateway to hell, and Christ is the gateway into the presence of God.
Jesus explicitly tells Thomas that He is the only way to the Father. It cannot be any clearer. As believers in a broken and turbulent world, we are surrounded by competing priorities, endless tasks, and overwhelming information that bombards us daily. This impacts our ability to spend time with the Father without interruption.
Although Jesus is our gateway to the Father, we must spend time with Him daily to abide in Him and Him in us — learning to hold onto Him with our minds, cleaving to Him with full purpose of our hearts, and so deriving life, grace, strength, and nourishment from Him.
So close to Him that people can see His reflection in us every day.
If you are not yet a believer but feel the tug of the Spirit on your heart today, giving your life to Jesus is as simple as acknowledging your sins, repenting, and asking Jesus to come into your heart to dwell forever:
Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus Christ, your Son, died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead to be my Lord. God, I now repent of my sins and personally invite Jesus into my life. Thank you, Jesus, for giving me the gift of eternal life. I promise to live for You as You reveal Yourself to me through Your Word, the Bible. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
Take some time to write a prayer to God on a sticky note and leave it at the cross. He is always present to listen.
Scripture
"Jesus told him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you know Me, you will also know My Father. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.'"
— John 14:5-7
